Shafali Verma's Triumph in the ICC Women's World Cup Final

Indian cricketer Shafali Verma shared her emotional journey and challenges that led to her outstanding performance in the ICC Women's World Cup final against South Africa. Verma, who earned the Player of the Match title, scored 87 runs off 78 balls and took 2 wickets for 36 runs, playing a crucial role in India's victory. Upon her return to Rohtak, she was greeted with a warm welcome after the team's World Cup 2025 success.

Hard Work Pays Off

Reflecting on her comeback, Shafali remarked, "Many are aware of the challenges I've encountered, especially over the past year. Now, I am reaping the benefits of my hard work. When I joined Team India, my sole focus was to contribute to our victory and secure the World Cup... I am thrilled to have taken those wickets."

A Special Recognition

Shafali was brought into the squad as a substitute for Pratika Rawal, who suffered a right-foot injury during a match against Bangladesh. She played a significant role in both the semi-final and final, contributing to India's first World Cup win.

After the victory, she recalled, "Both the Prime Minister and the President invited us for a meeting. The Prime Minister spent considerable time with us, and I truly valued his attention... Today, I felt immense respect in Rohtak, which brought me joy. I look forward to meeting the Chief Minister on the 12th, and I am very excited about that day."

An Unforeseen Star

Initially not part of the 15-member squad for the tournament, Shafali was called to open the innings with Smriti Mandhana, needing to make an immediate impact.

Her performance was pivotal, as she scored 87 runs and took crucial wickets of Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp early in her bowling spell, disrupting South Africa's chase.
